About Stroheim & Romann Fabric
One of the most enduring brands of decorative fabrics worldwide, Stroheim & Romann has provided the design market with some of the most memorable textile collections for more than 140 years. Offering a selection of classic and fashion-forward fabrics in a range of prints, textures, and colors, Stroheim & Romann, now owned by Fabricut, continues to stay on top of the design market as it had for the last century and a half.
The Stroheim & Romann Story: Stroheim & Romann was first established in 1865 by Julius Stroheim. When he arrived in New York City as an immigrant, he opened a decorative fabric business, supplying them to furniture makers in the city. Years after the company was founded, the market for luxurious designer fabrics improved, primarily due to the booming economy of the early 20th century. Showrooms across the U.S. gave the brand a more solid footing in the industry. Eventually their product range expanded and so did their market, reaching Europe and Asia. JAB Anstoetz, based in Bielefeld, Germany acquired Stroheim & Romann in 1982. The brand began distributing the high-end textiles of the German firm. In 2010, Stroheim was acquired by Fabricut, one of the world's leading suppliers of high-quality textiles to the international market.
The Collections of Stroheim & Romann: As the brand is one of most respected names in the decorating industry, Stroheim & Romann is a leading provider of luxurious, high-quality textiles, as well as trimmings and wallcovering. Created to suit the fine taste of the most discriminating design professional, the offerings of the brand are highly-varied and trendsetting. Classic designs are regularly updated and reinterpreted to produce some of the most widely coveted fabric collections. From stripes, checks, and plaids to florals, damasks, and tapestries, the styles cater to both traditional and contemporary tastes as well as to a range of lifestyles. Any interior designer - from traditional to transitional to the modern - is sure to find a good selection of fabrics and wallpapers from Stroheim & Romann.
Fabricut Acquisition of Stroheim & Romann: Fabricut Inc acquired Stroheim & Roman on May 17, 2010, adding another brand to the extensive Fabricut company umbrella. Stroheim used to be owned by German company JAB Anstoetz. Through this acquisition, Fabricut intends to reach bigger markets, especially the higher-end market of fabric and wall paper design. Production facilities have been moved from the old Stroheim headquarters in North Carolina to the Tulsa, Oklahoma facility of Fabricut. While Stroheim & Romann's decorative hardware collection is still distributed by JAB, all of the fabrics, trimmings, and wallpapers carried by Stroheim have been incorporated into Fabricut showrooms all over the United States. Chief executive of Fabricut David Finer has been quoted as saying that for a long time they have been looking for a strategy to expand their reach into the more upscale markets. Since JAB planned to focus mainly on their European brands, this move allowed both companies the freedom to obtain their set objectives. Meanwhile, President of JAB Group Chris-Jacob Schminnes, had expressed approval at their partnership with Fabricut, saying that this deal will help their brands achieve better recognition in North America. Other brands of Fabricut include S. Harris, Fabricut Contract, Vervain, and Trend.
Stroheim & Romann Recognition: Several of the prints, solids, and wallpapers by Stroheim & Romann have been published in design publications like Veranda, House Beautiful, and Traditional Home. 2010 saw the brand featured in the Spring 2010 issue of House Beautiful. Stroheim fabrics and wallpapers have been repeatedly featured in these magazines in 2011, such as the Spring April 2011 issue of House Beautiful and Traditional Home.
