About Stark Fabric

Specializing in custom designed fabrics and home furnishings; Stark Fabric has been a key player in the interior design industry for more than sixty years. They specialize in a wealth of designs, ranging from the traditional to the modern, constantly providing the most discerning interior designers worldwide with the finest fabrics for a range of uses. The superior, bespoke quality of Stark Fabric collections has made them a prime choice in many designing projects, from the U.S. to the U.K. to the Middle East.

The Beginnings of Stark Fabric:  Stark Fabric started as a carpet company founded by Arthur Stark and Nadia Stark more than sixty years ago. Both Arthur and Nadia traveled together to explore the many facets of carpet making and to find inspiration for their carpet and rug designs. These travels allowed the founders to create and recreate many of the most beautiful, historical carpet designs, incorporating them into their own collections. Eventually the company expanded, and began to design and manufacture textiles, wallcovering, and furniture along with their custom-designed carpets. The company now offers textiles, wallcoverings, and interior furnishings in a range of styles, including Oriental designs and antique fashions. Interior designers and architects who demand only the finest textiles whether for upholstery, drapery, or floor covering rely on the signature collections offered by Stark Fabric. Today the company is now presided over by the founders’ sons, John Stark and Steven Stark.

Stark Fabric Brands: Stark Fabric is known for its many brands, which allows the company to provide a wide assortment of fabrics, textiles, carpets, and trims to designers of varied decorating requirements. The division brands or collections of Stark include Bernard Thorp, Fonthill, Geoffrey Bradfield, Grey Watkins, Lelievre, Old World Weavers, Sherrill Canet, Tassinari & Chatel, and Thomas Dare.  One of the most popular brands of Stark Fabric is the Bernard Thorp collection, which is a fabric company established by Bernard Thorp during the 70’s. Considered today as one of the best fabric and wall covering designers and manufacturers in Europe, Bernard Thorp fabrics offer designs in classical themes like florals and leaf prints.  Stark Fabric has also partnered with Geoffrey Bradfield, to produce the Geoffrey Bradfield Signature Collection. Geoffrey Bradfield is a multi-awarded interior designer known the world over for his opulent yet functional style. He is considered as one of the top designers of the world. In January 2005 Architectural Digest granted him the honor as “Dean of American Design”.  Interior designer Sherrill Canet collaborated with Stark Fabric and Old World Weavers in 2006 to release the Sherrill Canet collection of fabrics and carpets and wall coverings. Canet’s creations have been widely acclaimed in the interior design industry, featuring up-to-date, contemporary designs ideal for sleek, minimalist interior settings.

Stark Fabric in the Press:  Stark Fabric offerings have been featured in House & Garden, which is one of the most prestigious interior design magazines in the world. Stark Carpet’s Zebra and Leopard Cub as well as the Yosca and De Dorotea in Parsley fabrics of Old World Weavers have graced the pages of the said magazine in January and May 2007.
