About Jasper Fabric

The exclusive textile offering of world-class interior designer Michael S.Smith, Jasper Fabrics offers beautiful textile collections for a wide variety of applications. Known for historical, beautiful, and graceful textile collections, Jasper Fabrics mirrors the style philosophy of its owner-founder, which is an interesting mix of "European tradition and American modernism.

The History: Jasper Fabrics and Michael S. Smith:  Jasper is the signature fabric and furniture line of renowned designer Michael Smith. Sold through showrooms across the United States and the United Kingdom, this exclusive line of luxury textiles and interior furnishings is both graceful and comfortable. Included in the Jasper Fabrics collections are a luxurious selection of prints, wovens, leather, and wall coverings.  Prior to the founding of Jasper Fabrics, Michael Smith has been operating a store specializing in home furnishings, as well as a successful design firm. Having taken up interior design in Los Angeles at Otis College of Art and Design, he furthered his specialty at The Victoria and Albert Museum of London. One year later he returned to the United States to train and work with antiques seller Gep Durenberger and designer John Saladino. Being a native of California, Michael Smith returned to his sunny home state to establish a home furnishings outlet. By 1990 he has already launched his own design firm, and began to expand his reach within the interior design market by offering his signature line of textiles and furniture through the Jasper brand.  Today Jasper Fabrics is the exclusive line of fabrics by Michael Smith. As a designer, Smith has had several licensing agreement partnerships, including with Cowtan & Tout, Kohler, Samuel & Sons Passementrie, and Flynn and Martin Carpeting.

The Varied Offerings of Jasper Fabrics:  Jasper Fabrics is highly recognized for their beautiful prints, textural wovens, luscious leathers, and elegant wall coverings. The prints from Jasper Fabrics are an exquisite combination of the classic and the more contemporary, as evidenced by the expansive choices of florals, botanicals, plaids, stripes, filigree, and abstract patterns in linens and cottons. The collections of wovens, which also include velvets, are available in the gorgeous shades of blue, green, red, and brown. Leather in earthy tones of honey, moss, espresso, and dark truffle are also offered by Jasper Fabrics.

Design Accolades of Michael S. Smith: Recognized as one of the most credible talents in the design industry of the present, Michael Smith has been the recipient of numerous awards especially by the world's best design magazines. In 2002 and 2004 he was awarded "The AD 100" by the Architectural Digest. In 2003 Elle Décor named him Designer of the Year, and in 2004 he received the "Stars of Design" recognition by the Pacific Design Center. His works have been featured in books, magazines, and other publications, including the 2007 and 2008 books "Elements of Style" and "Houses", respectively. Many of his Jasper Fabrics and furniture collections have also graced the pages of House Beautiful, Elle Décor Magazine, Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Home, and Town& Country, among many others.

A 25-year career in the design industry and Michael S. Smith's impressive design philosophy has led First Lady Michelle Obama to choose him for a redecoration project in the White House. On January 2010, Michael Smith redecorated the private quarters of the White House, as well as the Oval Office.
