About Fonthill Fabric
An enduring name in the market for designer textiles and stylish fabrics, Fonthill Fabrics are known for their fine and exclusive collections, designed for the most beautiful of interiors – from the cozy home to the most luxurious of living spaces. Acquired by Stark Carpet Corporation in 2006, Fonthill Fabrics are now distributed through this custom design firm, along with some of the most respected fabric, wallpaper, and fine furniture brands today.
Fonthill Fabrics from Stark Carpet: Fonthill Fabric collections are available through Stark Carpet, which has provided bespoke services to interior decorators and design professionals for more than 60 years. The company was founded by world travelers Arthur Stark and Nadia Stark, who first started the company importing, selling, and re-creating beautiful carpets and handmade rugs. In 2006, Stark Carpet acquired the Fonthill Fabric brand, along with fabric and wallcovering company Grey Watkins. This acquisition gave rise to the first fabric division of Stark, Stark Fabric. The company provides specialized services and exclusive products for residential and contract applications. Stark is a world-renowned purveyor of carpets, furniture, wallcovering, and fabrics, including the Fonthill Fabric collections. The brands of Stark Carpet include Bernard Thorp, Fonthill, Geoffrey Bradfield, Grey Watkins, Lelievre, Old World Weavers, Sherill Canet, Tassinari & Chatel, and Thomas Dare. Stark Carpet Company is now headed by the sons of Arthur and Nadia, John Stark and Steven Stark.
Fonthill Fabric Collections: Fonthill Fabrics is known for their exclusive, complete collection of world-class fabrics, which include the timeless prints of the classical period to the more adventurous weaves of contemporary times. To achieve the same exclusivity in quality and design which has characterized the brand for many years, most the Fonthill Fabric selections are designed and produced in old European mills. This is done to maintain the strictest and the highest in design and workmanship standards. This fabric division of Stark Fabric is known for their beautiful chenilles, chenille jacquards, tapestries and silk embroideries, paisley wovens, and matelasse. The collections are known for their sumptuous colorways depicting warm earth tones and bright jewel tones, which include browns, reds, greens, ivory, and tangerine. Delicious color selections also include Truffle, Taupe, and Tobacco. Fonthill Fabrics is also a distributor of some of the most renowned European brands. These include fabrics and textiles from Thomas Dare, Ottilie Stevenson, and Etro as well as Wendy Cushings trimmings, and Alexander Beauchamp and Paper Library wallpapers.
Fonthill Fabrics in the News: On August 3, 2006 it was announced that Stark Carpet will acquire Fonthill Fabric and Grey Watkins, and the company renamed to Stark Fabric. Both Fonthill and Grey Watkins are wallcovering and fabric companies. The acquisition will rename the fabric division of Stark into Stark Fabric, from Old World Weavers. Included in the Stark Fabric umbrella are the brands Grey Watkins, Old World Weavers, and Fonthill Fabric. This move was geared toward bringing together all Stark Fabric companies, allowing the company to improve on their fabric division brands. Fonthill Fabrics have also been featured in various magazines across the U.S., including House Beautiful, House & Garden, and other design publications.
