About Designers Guild Fabric
Built on a well-balanced philosophy of innovation, creativity, and quality, Designers Guild is a multi-awarded decorative textile company that also designs and produces wall coverings, upholstery, and luxury bed and bath collections. Known for their highly-acclaimed fabric collections that include weaves, prints, and a widely varied color palette, Designers Guild fabric has been making waves in the interior design industry for more than 20 years.
Designers Guild Fabric history: Designers Guild Fabrics, headquartered in London and represented in several countries worldwide, is headed by a brother and sister team, Tricia Guild and Simon Jeffreys. Tricia Guild, currently holding the position of Founder and Creative Director, established this company in 1970. From then on they have quickly become an important player in the market. Simon Jeffreys sits today as the Group Chief Executive of Designers Guild. Designers Guild Fabric released their first collection, Village, in 1975. Subsequent collections, released annually, followed including the Geranium, Poppy Vase, Bean and Daisy, and Watercolour collections. In 1991 the company earned the Queens Award for Export Achievement and the Export Award for Smaller Business in 1992. A year later their first office in Paris opened; and in 1994 the company won the European Community Design Prize. Further expansion gave Designer Guild Fabrics a more solid footing in the textile design and production industry, and today the company is also producing an exclusive range of furniture and home accessories.
Designers Guild Fabrics specialties: Designers Guild is arguably the most prolific fabric house to date, with more than 9,000 fabrics and 2,000 wallpapers encompassing its entire range presently. The company also operates in more than 40 markets and is properly represented in more than 60 countries. More than 60 showrooms are strewn throughout the world, from New York and Paris to Munich and Tokyo. The Designers Guild fabric range includes combed cotton from Egypt and linens from Scotland. Plains and prints, velvets, silks, linens, sheers, and satins are all available from this world-famous textile company. The fabrics and wallpapers take inspiration from various sources, such as Italian architecture and Eastern decorative art. A Designers Guild fabric collection has also been created for the younger, contemporary market, which features a hip and edgy fashion. Their Royal Collection of fabrics is in direct representation of the British Royal Family and the company also distributes the Ralph Lauren Home line. The most recent achievement of Designers Guild Fabrics is licensing prints and accessories for the iconic Christian Lacroix brand.
Designers Guild accolades: The accomplishments of the company in the last five years are quite staggering, placing them in a privileged position within just a short period of time. It is for this reason that Tricia Guild has earned several awards by the top publications in the industry, including the Homes and Gardens lifetime achievement award. In 2010 the Best British Brand Award by Elle Decoration UK was awarded to Designers Guild fabrics, after the brand also earned the Elle Decoration International Design Award for best fabric design in 2002 and the Elle Decoration Award for best wallpaper USA in 2003. In 2008 Tricia Guild received the O.B.E. honor from the Queen for her worthwhile contributions to the interior design trade. The status of Designers Guild as one of the most influential decorative textile brands today and its string of noteworthy accolades are testament to the company's growing and ever expanding prestige, whether as a purveyor of fabrics and wallpapers or as a designer of contemporary furniture and beautiful, high-end home accessories.
