Jim Thompson Fabrics feature a collection of fabrics that have been designed by “guest designers”.

1. English designer Richard Smith has outdone himself with his exquisite line of fabrics available in the Crystal collection. This grouping features luxurious printed silks that have actaully been embellished with Swarovski crystals.

For example, Mai’s Corsage is a shimmering floral that is available in 3 modern colorways that include regal red, modern lime or rose with lavender and gold stones. This fabric is the epitome of elegance.

Boiserie is an all over print available in 4 colorways that range from a sophisticated neutral to eye popping red, all embellished with randomly placed crystals. It’s like having diamonds at your windows!

2. Renowned French designer Paul Bidault has created a line of exotic fabrics in his Marco Polo collection. These designs were actually inspired by Jim Thompson’s own collection of Asian art.

The blue and white fish found on the Barramundi pattern can be found on items in Thompson’s collection of Ming porcelain. Printed on linen, this is the perfect choice for a casual pool house or sunroom.

Jim’s Dream, printed on a silk and cotton blend, has the soft patina of an ancient painting making it a nice selection for a bedroom or dining room.

Clarence House Fabrics has added an outdoor fabric line to its collection. Patterns include a classic Greek key design available in non-traditional colors of lime and hot pink, a wonderful stripe collection reminiscent of a gentleman’s tie, serene botanicals and free form circles against a cream backdrop.

Along with these traditional patterns they offer a few surprises. Their Oslo pattern is a hypnotic black and cream design that will add a modern touch to any outdoor space. La Mer (which means sea in French) depicts coral, shells and seahorses on a crisp white background. For a touch of the old world, consider the Delft pattern in indigo blue. There is even a very sophisticated animal print that can be used indoors or outdoors, as can all of these fabrics.

For nearly fifty years Clarence House Fabrics has been supplying the interior design industry with fabrics that feature exquisite details.

One fine example of this is the textural Jambalaya wool crewel. This fun loving fabric features a unique vine and leaf print with depictions of caterpillars, bugs and even a lion. While this could certainly be used in a child’s room, it is anything but juvenile. Over the years, Schumacher fabrics has partnered with several renowned designers to develop unique and interesting collections. Trina Turk is one of these designers. Her indoor/outdoor collection designed exclusively for Schumacher delivers a youthful and modern selection of color combinations and patterns that have been inspired by the poolside lifestyle so popular in places like Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Her own personal collection of vintage apparel also offered some inspiration.

Bold prints mimicking a garden trellis or a peacock tail are available in invigorating colors of turquoise, yellow and watermelon. A modern interpretation of a zebra print or the restful fronds pattern can tone down the vibrancy of these geometric patterns. There is even a whimsical fish print patterned after a vintage dress. Couple all of these colors and patterns with neutrals of sand dune and charcoal for a sophisticated and pulled together look.

Quadrille Fabric has a new outdoor collection called Suncloth that includes the wonderful graphic prints and vivid colors they are known for. Patterns and colors from the Quadrille, China Seas and Alan Campbell collection are now available for use in your outdoor spaces, making it possible to fully coordinate your indoor and outdoor rooms.

The colors are bright and happy and include magenta, royal blue, green and orange. Patterns include an exotic ikat along with a stylized leaf and vine motif. It is even possible to take many of the Alan Campbell and Quadrille patterns and have them custom printed onto the Suncloth fabric. The newest line of Jim Thompson Fabrics can be found in the No. 9 Thompson collection. With casual elegance as the focus, this line was inspired by Thompson’s love of beautiful things that included music, architecture and gardens.

  • Odyssey is the first grouping in this collection. It features fabrics woven from a blend of silk, cotton and other natural fibers to create a line that is both durable and affordable. Casual checks and stripes in modern color combinations coordinate beautifully with Asian inspired florals and luxurious solids.
  • Designs in the Ottomania collection have been inspired by the art and architecture found in exotic Istanbul. It offers a selection of printed patterns that include colorful paisleys, geometrics reminiscent of mosaic tiles, whimsical florals and durable solids in colors that coordinate with all the patterns.
  • Otientaliste is the third grouping in the No. 9 collection. Modern patterns and colors have been inspired by ancient oriental designs. Solids feature soft and muted colors that speak of hand dyed fabrics. Whimsical teapots and butterflies complement fretwork and geometric patterns. Brightly colored floral patterns are available as is an Asian toile in a bright turquoise color.

Creating a line of fabrics that can withstand the busy lifestyle of today’s homeowner, is affordably priced yet still unique and beautiful is the goal of the No. 9 Thompson collection. That has been accomplished in the three collections listed above.
