When designing textiles, inspiration for colors, patterns and textures can come from many sources. For example, Donghia’s designers study ancient architecture and traditional weaving methods and seek out historic patterns that can all be transformed into contemporary fabrics for use in today’s home.

  • Amirah offers a grid pattern printed on linen that was inspired by North African architecture.
  • Bindi features an exotic woven design patterned after the forehead jewelry favored by Indian women.
  • Fresco is a subtle stripe pattern designed to mimic the appearance of an aged fresco painting.
  • The look of ancient obi fabrics can be found in Kimono, a luxurious silk design.
  • Pisces, a brightly woven fish design, shows that even astrological signs can be inspirational.
  • The ancient weaving and dye technique used in creating Ikat designs was the inspiration for the Ikat pattern available in several modern color combinations.
  • The rich and varied history behind the design of Donghia fabrics is sure to add interest to your interiors.

Buy Donghia Furniture: Old Meets New

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Sleek, modern, classic, sophisticated, glamourous and refined.  These are just some of the words used to describe the Donghia furniture collection.  Inspired by the past but with a vision towards the future, they continue to come up with modern designs that pair up nicely with your Grandmother’s antique dining room set or an ancient relic you picked up in your travels.  This combination of old meets new is what makes your home interesting and unique.

There is something beautiful about a room that is devoid of any pattern.  Take this room for example.  The only noticeable  pattern in the room is the very subtle stripe in the rug.  However, accents such as the button tufting and nailhead trim on the chairs and the checkerboard design created in the mirror frame add the same amount of interest to the room as any pattern would.  The lack of pattern also allows you to notice all the small details such as the exposed wood frames of the chairs, the crystal lamp bases, the pop of “color” found in the black lamp shades.  This attention to detail is what Donghia is known for.

The unexpected placement of an ancient oriental screen as a backdrop to the modern dining room set is an excellent example of ways to combine beautiful designs from the past with the clean, modern lines of Donghia’s furniture collections.

You are sure to find exactly what you need from the collections available in the Donghia furniture line.  From the youthful and versatile Tribeca line to the modern, Asian inspired Masquerade line to the simple elegance of the Paris collection, there is something for everyone.  There is even a “green” line found in the Legacy collection to satisfy those of you interested in supporting the environmental movement through the furniture you choose to purchase.   All casegoods  in this line are made from sustainable hardwoods that come from responsibly managed forests.

Buy Donghia Fabrics: Ethnic Elegance for the Outdoors

Monday, August 17th, 2009

After forty years of providing exquisite textiles for the home,Donghia Fabrics has partnered with Sunbrella to create their first line of indoor/outdoor fabrics. Inspired by the colors and landscape of the eastern African plains, the Totem Collection will lend an air of sophistication and world traveled elegance to any outdoor space.

Zambezi is just one of the four patterns from Donghia’s Totem Collection. This wonderfully ethnic fabric is based on patterns found on tapas, which are woven textiles from remote places like Fiji and Samoa. A tapa pattern is a grid of squares that feature repeated motifs such as leaves, plants or fish making it the perfect design for your outdoor spaces. With nine colors available that include neutrals as well as blue and green, you are sure to find a color that works for you.

Donghia has made sure that the Sunbrella yarns used in the making of the Totem Collection, including Zambezi, are soil and stain resistant and prohibit the growth of mildew and rot. These fabrics are also colorfast which can reduce the amount of fading, making it possible to use them year after year.

While these fabrics have been designed to be used outdoors, they are soft and beautiful enough to use indoors as well. A sunroom, pool house, even a guest house can be decorated using these fabrics. If you have an indoor room that receives a lot of wear and tear from young children and pets, such as a family room or game room, the Zambezi fabric may be the answer to your prayers. Consider using it as a seat cover for your casual dining room chairs. Even though this fabric is stain resistant, the geometric pattern can also “hide” a lot of dirt until you have an opportunity to clean up.

The most important feauture in any furniture and fabric is the comfort level. The hand, or softness, of the fabrics found in the Totem Collection by Donghia Fabrics is comfortable enough to be used on any indoor sofa or chair. The neutral colors offered also make it easy to coordinate these fabrics with other colors and patterns in the room.

If you are seeking a fabric that can withstand mother nature as well as everyday life, Zambezi by Donghia Fabrics may be the answer.
