Buy Holly Hunt: Simplicity at it’s Best

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Picture a room filled with rich leather seating that is designed with simple yet comfortable lines.  Rough metal adorns tables and bookcases.  Rich, dark woods are the choice for chair frames, dining tables and accent pieces.  An interesting and unique lighting fixture hangs above the table.  An imaginative and sculptural rope piece designed by Christian Astuguevieille completes the look.

Now picture a room featuring a mixture of shiny metals and glass table tops.   Throw in a sculptural chair upholstered in a rich suede and add a sparkling chandelier.  While very different, you have just envisioned rooms that define the Holly Hunt look.

Since the first store opened in 1984, Holly Hunt showrooms have featured designer collections that include the minimalist  furniture designs of Christian Liaigre, the iconic electric “wax” candle lighting fixtures by Kevin Reilly and the unique and functional “sculptures” of Christian Astuguevieille.  Holly Hunt is known throughout the design industry as “the” place to go for custom made products.  Her very diverse line includes rugs, lighting, textiles and both indoor and outdoor furniture.

Studio H  is the furniture and lighting collection that embodies the eclectic and minimalist design Holly Hunt is famous for.   The pieces pictured below are a wonderful representation of the diverse styles and textures available.  The slim and modern Siren Dining Chair is the perfect complement to a heavy wooden table.  Add the whimsical and highly textural rope covered mirror and accent chair designed by Christian Astruguevieille.  Illuminate the whole room with Alison Berger’s modern interpretation of a Bell Jar Pendant and the room is complete.

Regardless of which designer or collection you choose from the Holly Hunt collection, you are guaranteed to have a unique piece of furniture that has been created with the utmost attention to detail and design.

Buy Brunschwig & Fils: For a Truly Custom Look

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Brunschwig & Fils is a familiar name to those in the design industry.  What began as a family run tapestry weaving mill in France at the turn of the twentieth century is now an international company with over 200 mills worldwide.  Over the years they have become known for high quality, innovative designs, many of which are historically inspired.  Along with beautiful fabrics their line includes wall coverings, trim, upholstered furniture pieces, mirrors, lighting and the all important accessories.  With such an extensive collection is it possible to furnish a room from head to toe using Brunschwig & Fils items.

Each year Brunschwig & Fils releases two new fabric collections, adding to the over 22,000 fabrics that are available.  These designs range from very modern and contemporary  to historically inspired patterns perfect for a traditional home. One unique feature of Brunschwig & fils is that they do not “retire” their designs on a regular basis.  Their mantra is “good design is forever”.  Therefore, it is not unusual to find fabrics that date back to the beginning of their company and even further.  The fabrics that are historically inspired can date back as far as the 18th century.

Customizing a room is an artform at Brunschwig & Fils.  Color, scale, pattern and special fabric treatments such as quilting or applique can be ordered.    This allows you to truly create a one-of-a-kind look for your home.

The furniture collection at Brunschwig & Fils is very eclectic.  You can choose the very ornate Alcazar console table, the more traditional Ladies desk in soft, muted colors of silver ang gray or the modern Mungap console that offers a touch of Asian flair.  Expert craftsmanship can be found in the hand assembled frames and hand tied coil springs of the upholstered furniture line.  Tufting, pleating, buttons and nailhead trim are just some of the custom options available.  If you can dream it, Brunschwig & Fils can make it .

If you are looking to design a room, or an entire home, with fabrics, furniture and accessories that will still be in style a decade or two from now, Brunschwig & Fils may be just the answer for you.

Buy Romo Fabrics: Vintage Inspired Fabrics

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Headquartered in England, Romo Fabrics is a family owned business with showrooms throughout the world.  They offer a complete line of fabric, trim and wallcoverings.  These range from the classic damasks and jacquards to the more contemporary chenilles and silks.   The trim collection features tiebacks, beaded braids, key tassels and pompom fringe all in colors that coordinate with other Romo fabrics. While many of their designs are inspired by vintage textiles, they are always looking for new styles and modern color palettes to add to their collection.

One fine example of this is the Simonii pattern shown in the photo below.  Romo Fabrics  has created a delightful mix of hot pink  color with oversized flowers that will add a bit of 1940’s glamour to a lady’s sitting room or teen’s bedroom.   This vibrant pattern does not need any help when it comes to getting noticed!  However, combining  it with simple furniture pieces upholstered in a solid fabric will allow it to “stand out”  yet prevent this exuberant pattern from overwhelming the room.

The very interesting color combination of  Dijon gold and Azure found in the Rubani collection by Romo Fabrics is a modern version of an antique textile from the 1930’s.   Stripes, botanicals and large and small scale florals all combine to create a warm yet modern interior.  Adding just a touch of chocolate brown gives this fabric a masculine feel that coordinates well with dark wood furniture.  If you live in the sunbelt this fabric is a great way to add the casualness of ferns and flowers to your space and avoid the expected pastels.  If you live in a climate that experiences seasons, the florals in the Rubani fabrics are grounded by the darker tones of the gold and brown and will not look out of place even during the coldest months.

Romo Fabrics will certainly make it easy to have a little fun with your fabric choices so step out of your comfort level and try something new.  A whimsical print or an unexpected color combination will give any dated room a facelift and add some personality to your home.

Buy Donghia Furniture: Old Meets New

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Sleek, modern, classic, sophisticated, glamourous and refined.  These are just some of the words used to describe the Donghia furniture collection.  Inspired by the past but with a vision towards the future, they continue to come up with modern designs that pair up nicely with your Grandmother’s antique dining room set or an ancient relic you picked up in your travels.  This combination of old meets new is what makes your home interesting and unique.

There is something beautiful about a room that is devoid of any pattern.  Take this room for example.  The only noticeable  pattern in the room is the very subtle stripe in the rug.  However, accents such as the button tufting and nailhead trim on the chairs and the checkerboard design created in the mirror frame add the same amount of interest to the room as any pattern would.  The lack of pattern also allows you to notice all the small details such as the exposed wood frames of the chairs, the crystal lamp bases, the pop of “color” found in the black lamp shades.  This attention to detail is what Donghia is known for.

The unexpected placement of an ancient oriental screen as a backdrop to the modern dining room set is an excellent example of ways to combine beautiful designs from the past with the clean, modern lines of Donghia’s furniture collections.

You are sure to find exactly what you need from the collections available in the Donghia furniture line.  From the youthful and versatile Tribeca line to the modern, Asian inspired Masquerade line to the simple elegance of the Paris collection, there is something for everyone.  There is even a “green” line found in the Legacy collection to satisfy those of you interested in supporting the environmental movement through the furniture you choose to purchase.   All casegoods  in this line are made from sustainable hardwoods that come from responsibly managed forests.
