About Donghia

What began as an interior design firm in 1972 when Angelo Donghia opened the doors to his interior design firm quickly evolved into a well-known and highly respected provider of exquisite to-the-trade fabrics and wall coverings.  Donghia is an international name in the industry of fabric design and furniture production, with more than 12 showrooms in the U.S. alone and more than 50 representative showrooms across the globe. Truly an American brand, the company reflects the aesthetic awareness and the style philosophy of its founder, even as it is already managed and owned today by the prestigious Rubelli Group, with Chuck Chewning as its Creative Director.

The fabric collections of Donghia: The fabric offerings of Donghia are sumptuous to say the least, designed to be installed as upholstery, wall coverings, and sheers. Available in a collection of patterns and prints, the brand effortlessly blends the traditional and the unconventional. Paisleys, figurative patterns, vibrant pocket weaves, printed plaids, forest silhouettes, abstract motifs and other interesting patterns and prints all evoke a design philosophy that is distinctively Donghia.  An impressive collection is also available as wall covering, utilizing the finest silks and cottons, luscious Belgian linens, and the more interesting grass cloth. The color palette for the wall coverings is an interesting mix of subtle and surprising, all in the signature Donghia colors. Textile selections for outdoor and indoor use make the brand one of the most versatile in the industry, with many of their outdoor fabrics made using weather-resistant, beautiful Sunbrella yarns and done in the most playful yet elegant patterns and colors.

Donghia furniture: The success of Angelo Donghia's textile company ultimately led to the addition of a furniture and case goods line, first introduced in 1978.  Donghia offers an upholstered furniture line that features upscale manufacturing details that include hand tied springs and solid hardwood frames.  A line of case goods is also available.  These exquisite pieces are all manufactured in the U.S.A. and feature unique details such as accents of metal, glass, onyx, marble and bronze. While the woods used are exotic and rare, careful attention is paid to insure that they are responsibly harvested and sustainable.  Donghia upholstered furniture and case goods are designed to provide every home with a lifetime of beauty, comfort and enjoyment.

The accolades of Angelo Donghia: As the man behind the Donghia brand of exquisite fabrics and luxury furniture, Angelo Donghia received various awards for his design work. Not only was he inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, he was also granted the Tommy Award for Fabric Design as well as the Marshall Field's "Distinction and Design" Award. Other noteworthy achievements include the Annual Euster Merchandise Mart Award. The New School of Social Research and Parsons School of Design also conferred on him an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Fine Arts.  After the passing of Angelo Donghia, the company was operated privately, until Donghia Inc. was bought out by the Rubelli Group. Andrea Favaretto Rubelli, recently appointed on September 2010, sits as the present CEO of the company. On August 29, 2011 it was also announced that Donghia will start distributing Hinson & Company, a leading brand of decorative textile and wall coverings and lighting accessories.
