About Brunschwig & Fils
Brunschwig & Fils, first established in 1900, has always been renowned as a luxury brand in the industry of textile design and production. Founded by Achille Brunschwig in the earliest years of the 20th century, Brunschwig first started as a tapestry weaving mill in France. As the company grew in size and scope, the brand eventually expanded its reach into the European, American, and international markets. Today, Brunschwig & Fils is associated with the design and manufacture of both historic and contemporary fabrics, as well as an impressive clientele that includes European royalty.
Brunschwig History: Achille Brunschwig may have built his company from the ground, but it was the direction and management of his son, Captain Roger E. Brunschwig that gave the company a wider reach, as it soon opened showrooms in the United States by the year 1925. Almost twenty years later, the captain's wife joined Brunschwig and Fils as new director and head stylist, introducing innovative collections that employed unusual materials like parachute cloth and unbleached muslin. The originality of her designs was met with approval by many of the most discriminating designers in the industry. When Captain Brunschwig resumed his position as head of Brunschwig and Fils, with his wife leading the business as design director, the brand began to expand and include wallpapers and trimmings along with their signature textiles. The designs and collections of Brunschwig today still reflect the same excellence and quality that the company has been known for beginning the 1900s.
Brunschwig Fabric Specialities: The fabric specialities of Brunschwig & Fils are exquisite and wide ranging. Designing and producing textiles for upholstery, wall covering, and interior design pieces, the company is known for their gracefully-printed linens, luscious chenilles, suedes, and velvets, and high-quality cotton and taffeta. Signature Brunschwig offerings include traditional prints such as stripes, florals, and plaids infused with contemporary, bolder styling such as animal skin prints and striking colors. The designs for the Brunschwig and Fils wall coverings are intricate and graceful, featuring beautiful prints and subtle, earthy tones. Brunschwig and Fils has also expanded into the design and production of upholstered furniture, such as armchairs, sofas, and ottomans, as well as pillows, curtains, and draperies. Brunschwig & Fils offers textile collections that span more than 50 years, while a few of the most coveted collections date back to as far as 200 years ago. Many of these textiles have been installed in royal residences such as the Chateau Versailles. Several Brunschwig and Fils collections of the past have been inspired by sources found within art museums, such as the prestigious Musee des Arts Decoratifs of Paris, the Museum of Art in New York, and The Henry Francis Du Pont Winterthur Museum in Delaware.
Brunschwig & Fils announced its plans for restructuring on January 2011 as Kravet, well-known distributor of luxury textile and furniture brands such as Lee Jofa & GP&J Baker, has already consented to buy the company through competitive bidding. Today, the company is owned solely by Kravet, as the Brunschwig & Fils name continues to serve the interior design industry as faithfully as it had for the past 110 years.
