About Antoine Proulx

Believing that balance can be achieved through a unique and focused take on asymmetry, Antoine Proulx is able to produce many of the most interesting furniture collections in the market. Combining timeless luxury and contemporary styles, the brand has consistently produced handcrafted furniture inspired by form, balance, and art.

The Art and Function of Antoine Proulx:  Marc Desplaines established the company in 1993 together with his partner and brother Richard Desplaines. Marc worked in the fashion industry and also gained substantial experience working with Yohji Yamamoto as head of retail and public relations for his US fashion corporation. Antoine Proulx was created when founder Marc Desplaines decided to build furniture according to his specifications and taste, after finding no other option in the market. The brand adopts a predominantly American style with strong references to the whimsical and exotic.

The Antoine Proulx Collections: The collections of Antoine Proulx are highly varied and unique, employing “asymmetry and cantilevered volumes” in order to attain balance. The tables and casegoods are heavily inspired by art, from the paintings of Rene Magritte to the ceramic creations of Czech artists. Creating luxurious pieces that is at once unpretentious and contemporary; the company strives to create furniture that will be appreciated for many generations to come.  Currently, Antoine Proulx produces armoires, beds, benches, bookcases, chairs for dining and side installations, coffee tables, console tables, desks, bedside tables, and many others. The collections are comprised of the O Series, French Series, Belgium Series, Czech Series, Dutch Series, Executive Series, and Infinite Office System. The company also produces beautiful mirrors and lighting for sophisticated interiors. Antoine Proulx mirrors are available in a more streamlined, contemporary style while lighting products are comprised of floor lamps, table lamps, ceiling mounted lighting, pendant light, chandeliers, and light boxes and desk lamps among others.

Editorials, Finishes, and Showrooms: Antoine Proulx furniture collections are offered in a range of finishes, ranging from black, titanium, and pumiced aluminum to ebonized walnut and ebonized mahogany. The standard wood finish on all the furniture pieces manufactured by the company is polycarbonate urethane, which is water based, weather resistant, and non-yellowing. Metal finishes in a variety of options are also available. Furniture collections are available to the trade through showrooms in the U.S. and Canada.  Trendy and contemporary Antoine Proulx offerings have been published and featured in various magazines including Elle Décor, The Wall Street Journal, and Metropolitan Home, and installed in film productions as well. The New York Times have referred to these creations as “furniture made to be handed down to future generations” while Interior Design Magazine describes the furniture pieces of Antoine Proulx as “balanced asymmetry.”  Film credits for the furniture brand include Autumn in New York and The Astronaut’s Wife.
