About Altura Furniture

Altura is a furniture company known for creating simple and timeless pieces in modern-classic designs. Backed by a philosophy on passion – whether for design or construction, Altura Furniture pieces are produced based on visual design conceptualization, functionality, and construction integrity.

The History and Philosophy of Altura: Altura, one of the finest furniture makers in the industry, has been manufacturing beautiful, timeless pieces for 28 years. The philosophy of Altura Furniture can be summarized in one line – “A passion for design matched only by the desire to build.” The company started in New York in 1983 and is headed today by partners Jeff Behnke and Roland Zehetbauer. Altura Furniture has grown today into one of the most creative furniture manufacturers in the country. Its workshop in Portland Oregon continually produces brilliant pieces, as the stunning backdrop of the outdoors and the widely-renowned design culture of the city offer ample inspiration to the company designers and artisans. Thriving in a “design-build environment” where designing is both a passion and a profession, the founders of Altura, as well as its competent team of furniture makers, are able to produce refined yet innovative pieces that reflect the best of the classics and the finest of the contemporary styles. The design approach of partners Behnke and Zehetbauer is a process that involves visual concepts, functionality, and excellent structural quality. These result in smart, inventive furniture pieces which are both a work of passion and a work of art.

Exclusive Altura Furniture Collections: The collections of Altura include a range of products, from tables and seating to casegoods and beds. Tables include the Duette Table, Duette Square Table, Nexus Round Table, and Nexus Extension Table. For seating, there are the Timbre Bench, Cadet Chair, Chevron Chair, Tri Arc Chair, Ogee Chair, and Cadet Bar Stools. The Offset Desk, Arris Desk, Stratus Low Console, Arris Cabinets, Arris Sideboard, and Helsi L84 make up the Casegoods collection. For beds, Altura offers the Arc Bed, Vista Bed, Plateau Bed, and Double Arc Bed. The choices for finishes include Natural, Stained, Cerused, Figured Veneers, and Aniline. Altura Furniture showrooms are located in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Washington DC, Denver, Kansas City, Canada, and Portland.

Altura Furniture Accolades and New Offerings: Among the newest offerings from Altura are the Scandinavian-inspired Helsi Casegoods and the Oregon Walnut Duette Table and Console. The Helsi Casegoods are celebrated for their canted legs, insightful detailing, and superb texture. This newest collection is available in different heights, widths, finishes, and configurations. The Oregon Walnut Duette Table and Console on the other hand are the first furniture pieces to be made using “Claro” Walnut, which is locally harvested. Altura Furniture is also known for award-winning pieces that combine classic sensibilities and contemporary styling. One of the finalists for the Interior Design 2008 Best of Year Product Award is the Nexus Square Table. This table is made distinctive by the order and symmetry of its base and its flexibility in styling. The Nexus Square Table also won the 2009 Best of Year Product Awards for Residential/Tables by Interior Design. The Stratus Low 72 Console won the 2008 Best of Year Product Awards in the Residential Casegoods category by Interior Design. This floating horizontal cabinet by Altura features an Asian-styled base, and is available in a variety of styling options.
